Kia ora koutou,
The term is already into week 6 and we look forward to celebrating each classes mahi in assembly on Friday at 2:15pm. The assembly will showcase how our children have been embracing our value of ‘Love of Work’
We have enjoyed Harold from the Life Education Trust teaching our Tamariki about different issues to do with Health and Wellbeing. The children enjoyed going to the mobile classroom to complete their engaging sessions.
School finishes at 2:55pm so children need to be collected. Thank you for collecting children on time from outside the library. Please contact me on my mobile number if you have been delayed- 0211275729.
We look forward to our whole school trip to Keith Spry Pool in Johnsonville on Friday morning 28th March. It is a great reward for our children’s hard work in class.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks

Second Sunday of Lent March 16
Below is my reflection for the Parish newsletter:
In the first reading of Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18, God makes his promise to Abram that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars. Abram believes this promise and while not seeing immediate results, has faith and trust in God’s plan. Even when we have to wait and go through uncertainty, it is important to keep the faith in God’s promises. This emphasis on faith and patient is evident in Psalm 27: 13-14 where we are reminded to strengthen our resolve and ‘Wait for the LORD with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD’.
The second reading of Philippians 3:17- 4:1 St Paul encourages the Philippians to follow his example and “Stand firm in the Lord”. This is relevant especially during difficult times and a reminder to keep the faith. He warns against being consumed by earthly desires, self-indulgence, status and possessions, but move towards our eternal joy in Christ and heavenly calling.
The Gospel of Luke 9:28b – 36 highlights the transformative power of Jesus as witnessed by the disciples when told by the Father to ‘..listen to him’. The Lenten season offers us the opportunity to listen and be open to Jesus’ guidance and deepen our faith in the teachings of Christ.
In our school, as we journey through Lent, we aim to encourage children to have faith in Christ, pray, give up a ‘worldly distraction’ and to make a difference in the lives of others through Almsgiving. The challenge, often for the tamariki, is to understand that faith is trusting even when we don’t see immediate results.

We have busy again over the last 2 weeks. It has been great seeing Kyra and Harold in the Life Education Van this week and learning all about Hauora. She gave us lots of good suggestions about how we can look after our wellbeing.
Miss Wylie
The highlights of last week for me was getting to go up to Newlands Intermediate with Ropati and Elijah and see some of art and textile sessions. I also really enjoyed going to the NZ Portrait Gallery and looking at the Gavin Hurley exhibition. It was also lots of fun when everyone got to create their own art using collage.
Frances
At the gallery we saw lots of portraits. There was an artwork called Wellington’s Beard. There was a painting of Queen Victoria’s husband; Albert. Lastly there was a painting of Captain Cook. I liked that we got to do our artwork.
Kora
We have been learning how to write our names and our ages in Mandarin. I have found out about the12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. I found out that I was born in the year of the goat. It is really cool learning a different language.
Penny
We have writing letters to our new penpals in Taiwan. We are writing some of the letter in Mandarin and some in English. I am excited for them to write me back. I would like to find out what types of sport are popular and a recipe that I could make at home. I would also like to find out about the Gods of Taiwan and the myths.
Elisabeth
We have been having garden sessions with Jo. We go out to the garden and water the plants. We have been able to eat some of the plants we have harvested. It is great that we still get to go in the garden even though GTT has stopped.
Next week I would like to do some more research on worms.
Alistair
Recently I went into the MakeRoom and made a VR animation. My favourite things were making the lighting up tree and the tracing board. During the VR animation there was coding that was similar to scratch. I am looking forward to us learning some coding in the classroom so that next time I go to the Make Room I can be better
Naomi
Dance Break has been really fun because we get to picks songs and dance. There are lots of options. My favourite song so far is Believer. I like that there is a variety of different songs that are different speeds. I like being able to move around and it helps with my energy.
Elijah
I got to go to Newlands Intermediate School to go to technology, We got to do sewing and made an awesome water bottle holder. I also did art and made my name out of clay. I enjoyed making a VR headset game but found it hard to do all the coding for the things I wanted to include like helicopters and T-Rexs.
Ropati
I really liked going to Tech because I got to do art and sewing. I also got to meet some of my old friends. I also enjoyed going to the Makeroom and got to make our VR game and try it out with an actual VR headset.

Over the past two weeks, room 2 have been enjoying completing tasks linked to the theme of food. We enjoyed making cookies with help of Ms Bryce. We then wrote an evaluation of what was good and what needed improving. We also wrote a recount about how we made the cookies and look forward to sharing these in assembly. For reading, we have been completing our skill builders through Lexia Core 5. For read works and shared reading our current topic is the weather. For maths, we have been begun the Prime maths books with the help of Mrs Ryan. The Tamariki have been enthusiastic about learning maths through prime and have all been progressing steadily through their course book and practice books. Next week, the House of Science we are looking at the interesting topic of flight and rockets.
Making cookies
Room 4 and 2 tamariki gathered to bake cookies. They mixed the ingredients, rolled out the dough, and shaped it into fun forms before placing them carefully on the baking sheet. The sweet aroma filled the room as they eagerly waited for the cookies to bake. Each child took pride in their creations and relished them. It was such an exciting experience!
Spelling
All Tamariki have been tested on many spelling lists to identify their instructional spelling level, and everyone surprised me with how many words they could spell.
Now that all the testing has been completed, tamariki will learn to spell new words. The spelling test will occur each Friday, and new spelling words will be sent home the same day.
Life Education
We have been fortunate to have the Life Education Trust mobile van come and visit us at CMcK. Kyra talked to us about important health and life topics and making positive choices. Our two topics included making choices about the food we eat and knowing where to go for help if and when needed.
Violeta: I like that we got to go in the van. It had lights that changed colours, and I loved the game too.
Harriet: The most exciting part was playing a game. We played a card game and sorted food.
Shabad: I liked talking to Harold, the giraffe.

Library Sessions:
Room 1 & Room 4 – Mondays
Room 2 Tuesdays
We now have a great selection of National Library books in every class. This is part of the National Library Small Schools loan scheme. The National Library is also assisting us with relocating the school’s collection. As and when the current location is moved out of the school library the National Library will replace books with fresh new titles for our students to enjoy.
